And the fight will go on!

In a vote of 38-24, the New York State Senate has decided that gay and lesbian couples are something less than human.

The senators voted to discriminate against a large part of the population of this state that we call home. They have declared that we are somehow inferior to other people, and therefore do not deserve to have a basic human right afforded to other citizens of this state.

Amendment 14 of the US Constitution (ratified in 1868) states in Section 1 that:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protections of the laws.

That last sentence is in bold because it is the one sentence in the US Constitution, of US LAW, that our state senators have broken when they cast their ballots.

Within the state of New York, there is a set of laws regarding marriage called the New York State Domestic Relations Laws. Article 2 of the Domestic Relations laws specifically deal with marriage.

By denying gay and lesbian couples even this small portion of New York State Law, the senators have violated the US Constitution.

So, do we sue the State of New York and each of the those senators that voted down the bill?

NO!

In fact, I say we hit these senators and the state where it counts: the pocketbook!

Since the state of New York wants to exempt us from having equal protection under the Domestic Relations law, then I think we should be exempt from ALL New York State Laws. I am more than willing to be exempt from New York State taxes (will save me a fortune every year), from New York State traffic laws (I’ll be able to drive as fast as I want), from New York State business laws, etc.

So, here is a message to the senators and citizens of New York: Give gay and lesbian people equal protection under ALL laws, or NO laws. Your choice!

Because to deny even one law is a violation of the US Constitution, which trumps anything you can throw at us.

Dragon Age: Origins… I want this game!

I have not read much about the new Bioware game Dragon Age: Origins. I have only seen one video of the game, and that was just a few minutes ago.

So why do I want this game based on one video and no knowledge of it?

Because it’s about damned time that the gay aspect of the main character is finally put out there, up front for everyone to see!

In the video I saw, there was a sex scene between two male characters. You can see the video here. And while Chicago Now claims the video is NSFW (Not Safe For Work) there isn’t anything pornographic in nature with the video. It is extremely sexual, it’s hot, but not graphic.

And I say it’s about time that game designers allow one of their characters to finally go in this direction. It’s not that the character is gay. It’s your choice of dialogue used to speak with the other character that leads to sex, whether male or female.

But just the fact that designers are willing to let this happen in a game is just another step in the right direction. I would venture to say that we will eventually see a game where the main character is homosexual in the not-too-distant future.

I am not asking for graphic sex scenes. I do not need to see penises in a video game. But an openly gay character that is the main character is something I cannot wait to see.

And for those of you who may be thinking that the Gay Tony add-on for Grand Theft Auto is what I am looking for, let me just tell you that because it is done by RockStar, I can tell you it’s going to be full of homophobic idiots, just like every other GTA game. And I won’t get the Gay Tony add-on because I hate the GTA franchise. It’s boring and one of the stupidest games I have ever played, or tried to play, I should say.

Update!

Hey there everyone!

Realized I haven’t posted in a while, thanks to school, of course. It’s going okay so far this semester.

We had a short week this week, and I ended up missing a couple classes because I got myself sick. I went to algebra yesterday morning, and by the time I was done with the class, I felt like I was going to pass out, so I skipped accounting and sat in the atrium just trying to will myself to feel better enough to drive home. Then I went to my Personal Finance teacher and told her I was sick, gave her the homework that was due, and then went home, where I basically passed out on the couch until this morning.

I still feel a little under the weather today, but only had one class today so went to school for it (my other class was canceled). I am feeling better this afternoon, but still not quite 100%. Supposed to meet up with fellow classmates tonight for a concert at Labyrinth, but I am thinking I am might have to skip that.

There is a party after that get together that I know for a fact I am skipping, but some of us were talking about going out to some of the bars (those of us old enough to actually get into a bar, of course.) That could be fun, but we will have to see how I am feeling later this evening.

We got our first snowfall today. Nothing too bad, but when you don’t feel good and then have to brush snow of the truck before you can go anywhere, it’s a royal pain in the ass! Even now it’s colder than hell, and there is more snow predicted for tonight. Then, as is the case around here, the temperature is going to head back up into the ‘60s, so all of the snow is going to melt and we’ll end up with mud all over the place. Thank god I replaced my windshield wipers this past weekend, otherwise there would be no way to see out the truck.

I had thought I should probably take some pictures of the truck covered in snow before I went to school, then figured I would have plenty of opportunity in the future to do so, as this was just the first of many snow storms that are going to dowse us this winter.

What I am really hoping for is a picture of the tree next door once the leaves have all fallen off, and the snow coats the berries. When the berries are all that remains on the tree (and I don’t know what kind of tree it is) and then we have a snow storm, the snow piles onto the berry clusters and makes each cluster look like little bells hanging on the tree. It’s really pretty.

Anyway, now I am living up to the slogan of the site and just wasting space in this post, guess it’s time to finish this off and get cracking on some reading. I have to return the book to the library in 6 days, and I am only a 3rd of the way through it.

I’ll try to focus more and get some further updates as I can.

The Visitors arrive earlier than first thought!

Back toward the end of July, I posted a video from ABC with some scenes of the new reboot television series “V” and told you that the new series would air in February of 2010. I was getting this information from ABC at the time, but looks as if things have changed.

I am not sure why, but it seems that ABC has decided that the new series of our favorite reptilian aliens trying to take over the planet should now start earlier than February. In fact, the new series will be premiering on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009, at 8:00 PM.

The time of the premiere concerns me, though.

8:00 PM is still in the kid zone for prime time, so I it will need to be appropriate for the younger viewers, as well as the adults who, like me, want to see what ABC has done to one of our favorite ‘80s television events.

I am not going to hold out high hopes that this show will be darker and more mature, ala Battlestar Galactica. But I am hoping that this show is good!

And from I have been reading online, it seems that those who have actually seen the pilot episode of the reboot say it is one of the best shows they have seen in quite a long time.

So, set your schedules! November 3rd, the world gets it’s lizard invaders back!

School Begins TODAY!!

I am off to school again today! I am so freaking excited!! And my first class is at 9:00 and just happens to be Writing About Literature.

If this class is what I think it is, it’s going to combine two of my favorite hobbies: reading and writing!

Then I attend my first Business Law class at 11:00. I spoke with some people I work with who have taken the Business Law class and said it is actually a very interesting class, even if it is a very high level look at business law.

Who knows, if I like it well enough, maybe I will not only end up as an accountant, but as a lawyer as well! :)

Those are my only two classes today. Tomorrow is my heavy class schedule, where I will be going to Algebra, Personal Finance and Managerial Accounting, one right after the other.

The best part about today, though, is that I don’t have to go to work tonight! So I will have plenty of time to do any homework that will be assigned. And I can guarantee there will be homework!!

Anyway, I have about 2 hours before I need to pick up my nephew (who is also starting his college courses today), and I need to get to Wal-Mart before class to pick up some Coke (they only sell Pepsi at school, and I can’t stand Pepsi!)

Maybe I will write an update when I get home this afternoon. Depends, since I haven’t been to bed since getting off work this morning (didn’t want to risk not hearing the alarm and not getting to school on time!)
